Onguma Tamboti Luxury Campsite is the strongest answer on the eastern side to a hard camping question: how to keep the independence of a tent without the shared-ablution scrum of the big public camps. Twenty-five tree-shaded sites, each genuinely private — own shower, own toilet, power points enough for the fridge and the camera batteries, a covered wash-up, daily servicing and a starter pack of firewood on arrival.
The arithmetic deserves saying plainly: NWR’s in-park campsites run from about NAD 460 per person with shared ablutions; Tamboti is NAD 500 with private ones, a pool, an à-la-carte restaurant overlooking a waterhole, and the gate four minutes away.

The sites
Twenty-five sites under natural tree shade, each taking up to two tents and four people, with grouped sites available for parties travelling together. Each has private shower and separate toilet, power points, covered wash-up, daily servicing, and one starter wood pack on arrival. Wi-Fi is available in the restaurant area.
Activities — campers can book everything
Onguma’s activity menu is open to campsite guests: guided Etosha game drives (NAD 1,750 per person, 2026), Onguma sunrise or sundowner drives (NAD 890), guided nature walks (NAD 890, ages 16+), the sunken Onkolo photographic hide (NAD 650, minimum age 7, minimum 2 guests), the Young Explorers walk for children (NAD 420), and private vehicles. Under-7s cannot join scheduled drives or the hide — a private vehicle is the family workaround. Pre-booking is advised in high season.

Who Tamboti suits
Self-drive campers who want comfort without giving up the tent, and families (the fenced camp takes children the reserve’s lodges cannot). Getting to Tamboti
The Onguma reserve entrance is 500 m from Von Lindequist Gate on the Namutoni road; Tamboti sits just inside — the reserve calls it four minutes from the gate. Approach via the B1 to Tsumeb, then the C38. No 4×4 needed.

Does every site really have its own bathroom?
Yes — each of the 25 sites has a private shower, a separate private toilet and a covered wash-up area, serviced daily. Sites take a maximum of two tents and four people, and grouped sites can be arranged for parties travelling together.
How does Tamboti compare with camping inside Etosha?
Price is nearly level: NWR in-park camping runs from about NAD 460 per person with shared ablutions; Tamboti is NAD 500 plus the NAD 65 levy with private ablutions, power, a pool and a restaurant. Do I need to book meals ahead?
