Why stay at Halali Camp
Halali Camp sits at the geographical heart of Etosha National Park, roughly halfway between Anderson Gate (south-west) and Von Lindequist Gate (east) — the natural mid-park base for visitors splitting an itinerary between Western and Eastern Etosha. Set in mopane and tamboti woodland on the southern rim of the Etosha Pan, the camp is built around the Moringa floodlit waterhole, a smaller and quieter alternative to Okaukuejo where black rhino and elephant arrive after dark. Accommodation runs from camping pitches through seven room and chalet types, including the only honeymoon suite in the in-park camps. Halali also has the park’s most reliable shade — mature trees throughout the camp — making it a comfortable midday return base during the October heat.

The Halali Moringa waterhole
The Moringa floodlit waterhole at Halali Camp draws nightly elephant arrivals through the dry season, with black rhino sightings on most evenings from June to October. The viewing area sits on an elevated rocky outcrop, giving guests a natural amphitheatre over the water. Unlike Okaukuejo’s busier waterhole, Moringa is quieter — typically 10–20 viewers at any time — and the elevated position offers better photography angles. The waterhole is open 24/7 to camp guests; floodlights run from sunset to sunrise. Best dry-season viewing windows are 19:00–21:30 and pre-dawn 05:00–06:00.
