Onguma Leadwood Campsite is Tamboti’s small sibling: six private sites in the shade of established leadwood trees, within walking distance of Onguma Bush Camp — whose restaurant, waterhole and pool are open to Leadwood campers. Each site has its own shower, toilet and power point, a shared wash-up, daily servicing and a starter wood pack.
Six sites means Leadwood does something no other campsite in the Etosha area offers: a group of friends or an extended family can book the entire campsite for exclusive use — a private camp, with a lodge’s facilities a stroll away.
Why camp at Leadwood

The sites
Six shaded private sites, each with shower, toilet and power point, sharing a wash-up area; maximum two tents and four people per site. Fenced, with children welcome under constant adult supervision — under-3s free, ages 3–11 at half rate. One practical difference from Tamboti: meals at Bush Camp and all activities must be pre-booked when you reserve, not on arrival — Bush Camp’s restaurant seats its lodge guests first.
Activities — the full Onguma menu
Leadwood campers book the same activities as everyone on the reserve (pre-booked, per the note above): guided Etosha game drives (NAD 1,750 per person, 2026), sunrise and sundowner reserve drives (NAD 890), nature walks (16+), the Onkolo photographic hide (age 7+, NAD 650), the Young Explorers walk for children, and private vehicles for families with under-7s.

Who Leadwood suits
Campers who prize quiet over amenities-on-site (the amenities are a walk away, not absent), and groups — six sites taken whole make a private bush camp for up to 24 people at campsite prices. If you want the restaurant and kiosk directly in camp, and more sites to choose from, Tamboti is the bigger sibling four minutes from the gate.

Enter the Onguma reserve 500 m from Von Lindequist Gate on the Namutoni road; Leadwood lies a short drive inside, beside Onguma Bush Camp. B1 to Tsumeb, then the C38; no 4×4 needed.

What is the difference between Leadwood and Tamboti?
Size and rhythm. Tamboti has 25 sites, its own restaurant, pool and kiosk, and meals booked on arrival. Leadwood has six sites, uses Bush Camp’s facilities on foot, and requires meals and activities to be pre-booked at reservation. Rates are identical — the choice is bustle-with-convenience versus quiet-with-a-short-walk.
Can we book the whole campsite?
Yes — exclusive use of all six sites is offered, which suits overlanding groups, clubs and family gatherings: up to 12 tents and 24 people with the campsite entirely to yourselves.
Can Leadwood campers eat at Bush Camp?
Yes, subject to availability — and that is why pre-booking at reservation time matters here: the restaurant seats Bush Camp’s lodge guests first, so meals arranged in advance are guaranteed and walk-ups are not.
How far in advance should I book?
Six sites is the scarcest camping inventory on the reserve — for July–October, book with your Etosha camps months ahead, and remember the 100%-fee cancellation rule; postpone rather than cancel.
