Etosha National Park

Etosha Swakopmund Damaraland 8-10 Day

The Etosha–Swakopmund–Damaraland Loop

This is one of Namibia’s most popular self-drive routes — combining three completely different environments in a logical circular loop from Windhoek. Wildlife in Etosha, coastal adventure in Swakopmund, and ancient rock art with desert-adapted elephants in Damaraland.

Why This Combination Works

  • Logical routing — no major backtracking; forms a genuine loop via Windhoek
  • Maximum diversity — three completely different Namibian landscapes in one trip
  • Accessible self-drive — all roads on good tar or well-maintained gravel
  • Etosha anchors the wildlife; Damaraland adds culture and archaeology; Swakopmund adds coastal recovery time

10-Day Extension Options

With 2 extra days, the best additions are:

  • +1 night Etosha: Stay 3 nights in Etosha instead of 2 (adds Halali properly)
  • +1 night Damaraland: Full day for rock art, Brandberg, desert elephant tracking
  • +1 night Spitzkoppe: The “Matterhorn of Namibia” — extraordinary granite inselberg with camping and rock art
