Okutala Etosha Lodge sits on 24,000 hectares of private land south of the park — a working reserve of its own rather than a gate-strip lodge. The trade is stated plainly: Andersson’s Gate is 40 km away, a longer morning run than the gate-cluster properties — and in exchange you get hilltop chalets above the plains, two pools, genuinely family-built rooms, and rates well under the gate-side average.
The lodge is run by the Okutala family (Gecko Lodges Pty Ltd), with habituated wildlife — banded mongooses, rhino and a famously free-roaming giraffe — wandering the grounds as part of daily life.

Families first — the room formats and the half-price-on-everything child policy are unmatched nearby — and any traveller who prefers space and value over gate proximity. If minimising the morning drive matters more, Etosha Safari Camp and Etosha Village sit 10 minutes from Andersson’s; Toshari Lodge is the 20-minute compromise with camping.
Getting to Okutala
From Outjo take the C38 toward Andersson’s Gate for about 70 km, turn left onto the gravel D2695 for 6 km, then follow the 11 km internal road. The lodge is roughly 400 km from Windhoek, and 40 km from Andersson’s Gate — allow 45 minutes to the gate for morning starts. A shuttle runs between reception and the Hilltop Chalets.
