Horizon by Ongava — the refurbished and renamed camp formerly known as Little Ongava, reopened in 2026 — is the most exclusive address on the Ongava Game Reserve: three thatch-roofed villas, each with a fireplace sitting room and private viewing deck, an infinity pool, and a walkway out to a small thatched lookout over the reserve.

Its defining feature is in the rate sheet, not the brochure: every Horizon reservation includes a sole-use guide and vehicle. Your party sets the morning departure, how long to sit at a rhino sighting, and when to head into Etosha — the privilege the big lodges sell as an expensive extra is simply how Horizon works.

Who Horizon by Ongava suits

Couples marking the trip of a decade, serious photographers who need vehicle autonomy, and parties of up to six taking the camp whole. If the budget is better spent across more nights, Encounter by Ongava delivers the same reserve, unfenced and waterhole-centred, at roughly a third of the per-person rate; Ongava Lodge and Anderssons at Ongava sit between.

Getting to Horizon by Ongava

The reserve entrance is roughly 430 km north of Windhoek, across from the Ombika entrance road at Etosha’s southern gate (Andersson’s Gate) — the Okaukuejo side of the park. Fly-in guests use Ongava’s 1,200 m airstrip, about 15 minutes from the camps; check-in from 14:00, check-out by 10:00. Reserve GPS: 19.3212°S 15.8055°E.

Yes — Horizon is the refurbished and renamed Little Ongava, reopened in 2026. Same three-villa scale, same position on the reserve, new interiors and a new name. If you stayed at or were quoted for Little Ongava, this is that camp today; listings still using the old name are out of date.

What does “sole-use guide and vehicle included” actually mean?

Every Horizon booking — even a single villa — comes with a guide and safari vehicle dedicated to your party alone, included in the rate. Departure times, sighting time and Etosha excursions run on your schedule. Elsewhere on the reserve the equivalent arrangement is a paid extra (NAD 19,500 per day on Encounter’s rate sheet), which is the clearest way to see the value built into Horizon’s rate.

Are children allowed?

Children under 12 only when the whole three-villa camp is booked for exclusive use; younger guests share with an adult up to 16, and walks start at 16.
