Onguma Tented Camp is the classic-safari middle of the Onguma range: seven luxury tents built around the camp’s own waterhole, close enough (about 60 metres) that the floodlit water is the view from every tent, the rim-flow pool, and the dining deck. Where Camp Kala is architecture and The Fort is drama, Tented Camp is the pure form: canvas, water, game.
Each tent carries more comfort than the word suggests — king or twin beds, evening-breeze cooling, a bath plus indoor and outdoor showers, a stocked minibar, a private patio and a private wood-fired hot tub.

Who Onguma Tented Camp suits
Couples and photographers who want the waterhole-first experience at roughly half of Camp Kala’s rate. If the budget needs to come down further, Bush Camp and Forest Camp carry the reserve’s classic-lodge tier; if you want walking, Trails Camp is the reserve’s dedicated foot-safari product.
Getting to Onguma Tented Camp
The Onguma reserve entrance is 500 m from Von Lindequist Gate on the Namutoni road; the camp lies a short drive inside on good bush roads. Self-drivers approach via the B1 to Tsumeb and the C38; fly-in guests use the Mokuti or Onguma airstrips with transfers included. Namutoni Camp is the nearest in-park NWR camp.
Frequently asked questions about Onguma Tented Camp
Is this the camp that used to be called Ongava Tented Camp?
No — different reserve, different side of Etosha. Onguma Tented Camp is on the Onguma reserve at the eastern gate and operates under its own name. The former Ongava Tented Camp, on the southern boundary, was renamed Encounter by Ongava in 2026. The similar names cause real confusion; check which side of the park your itinerary needs.
Are children allowed?
The camp is unfenced, so children under 12 are not accepted. Guests from 12 stay in their own tent at the full rate. Families with younger children fit better at Onguma’s fenced campsites or at Mushara Bush Camp nearby.
What does all-inclusive cover?
Accommodation, all meals and afternoon tea, selected drinks including the minibar, two scheduled activities per day (Etosha excursions, reserve drives, walks, the Onkolo Hide), airstrip transfers, VAT and levies. The NAD 275 conservation levy, spa, Dream Cruiser and premium drinks are extra.
