Mushara Bush Camp is the family and value tier of the Mushara Collection — a down-to-earth tented camp on the Mushara property near Von Lindequist Gate, run by the same family (Mariza and Marc Pampe) who built Mushara Lodge some 25 years ago. Sixteen en-suite tents of canvas, wood and local limestone stand around a thatched dining verandah, a pool and — unusually for the Etosha lodges — a proper children’s world: kiddies’ pool, jungle gym, sandbox, an old tractor to climb on, and child minders.
Where most eastern-side properties restrict young children, Bush Camp is built around them: family tents with sleeper couches, child-adapted meals, and children allowed on the camp’s scheduled Etosha game drives.
Why stay at Mushara Bush Camp
- The family camp that actually means it. Play area, jungle gym, sandbox, toys and books, child minders, kids’ meals — plus four dedicated family tents (up to 3 children sharing with 2 adults).
- Honest value. A double tent on dinner, bed & breakfast from NAD 6,200 per tent — among the most affordable lodge-standard beds this close to the eastern gate.
- Etosha drives with park fees included. The collection’s scheduled Etosha drives (NAD 1,500 per person from April 2026) include VAT, park entrance and conservation fees.
- Garden-to-table meals served on the thatched verandah, with produce from the Mushara garden.
Accommodation at Mushara Bush Camp
Sixteen en-suite tents built from canvas, wood and local limestone, each with an 8 m² private veranda: 12 double tents and 4 family tents with sleeper couches for children. Children aged 0–12 share a family tent with two full-paying adults (maximum three children); under-3s stay free, and ages 4–12 pay NAD 1,400.
Built for travelling families
The camp’s family infrastructure is the deepest in the Etosha area: a kiddies’ pool beside the main pool, a fenced play area with jungle gym and sandbox, the beloved old tractor, shelves of books and games, child minders so parents can take a quiet dinner, and child-adapted mealtimes. Children join the scheduled Etosha game drives (under-8s are bookable only at the camp itself), or families can take a private vehicle.

Who Mushara Bush Camp suits
Families with children of any age, and independent travellers who want a real tented camp near the eastern gate without flagship prices. Couples wanting a quieter, adults-only atmosphere should look 1 km up the road at Mushara Outpost (12+), at Mushara Lodge itself, or across at the Onguma reserve.
Getting to Mushara Bush Camp
From Windhoek it is about 530 km to Tsumeb on the B1, then some 74 km north before turning left onto the C38 toward Namutoni; the Bush Camp entrance is signposted off the C38, 1 km before its sister camp Mushara Outpost, which the collection places 10 km from Von Lindequist Gate. Fly-in guests use the collection’s own 1,400 m Mushara Airstrip or the Mokuti strip, with complimentary transfers for overnight guests. GPS: S 18° 48′ 914″ E 17° 7′ 710″.
Frequently asked questions about Mushara Bush Camp
Is Mushara Bush Camp good for young children?
It is the most deliberately child-friendly camp on Etosha’s eastern side: four family tents with sleeper couches, a kiddies’ pool, a play area with jungle gym and sandbox, child minders, adapted meals, and children welcome on scheduled Etosha drives — under-8s are bookable at the camp itself. Under-3s stay free; ages 4–12 pay NAD 1,400.
How far is Bush Camp from the Etosha gate?
Roughly 10 km — the camp’s entrance is 1 km before its sister property Mushara Outpost, which the collection places 10 km from Von Lindequist Gate. In practice that is about ten minutes to the gate, and the Namutoni circuit is immediately inside.
What is the difference between Bush Camp, Outpost and Mushara Lodge?
Same family, three tiers: Bush Camp is the value and family camp (children of all ages); Outpost is the elevated adults-focused tented camp (12+, from NAD 8,700 per tent DBB); Mushara Lodge is the original flagship. Villa Mushara, with two private-pool villas, is the exclusive top end.
Do the game drives include Etosha park fees?
Yes — the collection’s scheduled drives (NAD 1,500 per person from 1 April 2026) and private drives (NAD 11,600 per vehicle) include VAT, park entrance and conservation fees, which is unusual and makes them easier to compare against self-driving with your own permit costs.
How far in advance should I book?
The four family tents are the scarcest inventory — for July–October school-holiday dates, book 6–9 months ahead. Double tents and shoulder-season dates are more forgiving.
