Mokuti Etosha — long known as Mokuti Etosha Lodge — is the O&L Leisure resort at Etosha’s eastern entrance, and its location is the whole argument: the entrance road is 40 metres from Von Lindequist Gate. No other lodge on any side of the park is this close to a gate. You can be inside Etosha at opening time, and back for lunch without the drive eating your day.

It is also the most hotel-like of the eastern properties: three pools, a spa and gym, a tennis court, conference venues, and grounds large enough to hold four waterholes, a resident Bontebok herd and a reptile park. If Onguma’s camps are about wilderness immersion, Mokuti is about comfort, facilities and family logistics.

Why stay at Mokuti Etosha

  • 40 metres from the gate. First through Von Lindequist in the morning, last out in the evening — with the Namutoni and Fischer’s Pan circuits right inside.
  • Real family infrastructure. A children’s pool among the three pools, Junior Suites sleeping four, children up to 6 free on existing beds, and the Ontoka reptile park’s daily snake shows on the property.
  • Twice-daily guided drives into Etosha in open safari vehicles with professional guides — plus night drives to waterholes and bush walks led by indigenous Hai//om (San) guides.
  • Full resort services. Restaurant with African and international cuisine, Omulilo Spa with qualified therapists, a fully equipped gym, and conference venues for 25–130 delegates.

Accommodation at Mokuti Etosha

Four room categories, all resort-style rather than tented: Standard Rooms (24 m², two guests), Deluxe Rooms (24 m², twin beds convertible to king, outdoor shower), Junior Suites (69 m², up to four guests — the family option), and the Presidential Suite (88 m²). The lodge does not publish a total room count; it is one of the largest properties in the Etosha area, which is why groups and conferences favour it.

The gardens, waterholes and reptile park

Mokuti’s grounds work like a small private reserve: four on-property waterholes, gardens grazed by a resident Bontebok herd, birdwatching through the trees, and the Ontoka Reptile Park with daily snake shows — a genuine hit with children after a morning of game driving. Sundowner experiences run 4–7 km from the lodge.

Activities from Mokuti Etosha

  • Twice-daily game drives directly into Etosha National Park with professional guides.
  • Night drives to waterholes outside the park.
  • Guided bush walks led by Hai//om guides — a cultural dimension few Etosha lodges offer.
  • On-property: tennis, spa and gym, birdwatching, the reptile park.

Who Mokuti Etosha suits

Families with younger children, first-time safari travellers, and anyone who wants hotel-grade comfort and facilities with the park on the doorstep. Photographers and bush purists who want an unfenced private-reserve feel are usually happier on the neighbouring Onguma reserve or at Mushara; travellers prioritising floodlit in-park waterholes should compare Namutoni Camp, 8 km inside the gate.

Getting to Mokuti Etosha

Mokuti sits at Von Lindequist Gate on Etosha’s eastern side. Self-drivers from Windhoek take the B1 north through Otjiwarongo and Tsumeb, then the C38 to the gate — the lodge entrance is effectively at the gate itself. From the lodge, the Namutoni circuit, Fischer’s Pan and the eastern waterholes are the natural first-day drives.

Frequently asked questions about Mokuti Etosha

How far is Mokuti from the Etosha gate?

40 metres. Mokuti’s entrance is directly at Von Lindequist Gate, Etosha’s eastern entrance — closer to a park gate than any other lodge on any side of Etosha. You can enter the park at opening time without an early-morning transfer drive.

Does Mokuti run game drives into Etosha?

Yes — twice-daily guided drives go directly into the park in open safari vehicles with professional guides. The lodge also runs night drives to waterholes outside the park and bush walks led by Hai//om (San) guides on its own grounds.

Is Mokuti Etosha good for families?

It is the strongest family option at the eastern gate: children up to 6 stay free on existing beds, Junior Suites sleep four, one of the three pools is a children’s pool, and the on-site Ontoka Reptile Park runs daily snake shows. Most private reserves nearby restrict young children; Mokuti does not.

Is it better to stay at Mokuti or inside the park at Namutoni?

Mokuti wins on comfort, food, pools and family facilities; Namutoni wins on being inside the park with the King Nehale waterhole and no gate times to plan around. Many itineraries do both — Mokuti for the first night after the long drive north, Namutoni for the in-park nights. We can sequence this for your dates.

How far in advance should I book?

Mokuti’s size means it holds availability longer than the small lodges, but July–October still fills months ahead, and Junior Suites go first. For dry-season dates, 6 months ahead is comfortable; for shoulder season, less.
