Gate Times: What Changes and What to Verify

Gate opening and closing times change monthly, aligned with sunrise and sunset. The approximate schedule is published annually by NWR but can be adjusted at short notice. Always:

• Confirm gate times at camp reception on arrival
• Check the NWR website for the current month’s schedule before departure
• Never rely on times from a blog or article published more than 6 months ago

Rules That Occasionally Change

Drone Policy

Drone flying inside Etosha National Park is prohibited without specific NWR written permission. This permission is rarely granted. The policy has been consistently enforced. Do not bring a drone assuming you’ll get approval on the day.

Night Drive Operating Hours

NWR night drives operate on set schedules that vary by season. The duration and departure times are confirmed at camp reception. Book on arrival — do not assume evening departure times.

Road Closures

Specific roads (notably Fischer’s Pan loop, some western spur roads) are closed when conditions require it. These closures are managed dynamically by NWR rangers. Always ask at reception about current road status before setting out.
