Best Lodges in Etosha by Budget

Etosha Lodges and Camps by Budget Category

Etosha accommodation spans an enormous price range — from NAD 220/night camping to NAD 12,000+/night luxury tented lodges. This guide organises the best options by budget tier so you can identify the right fit without wading through irrelevant options.

Budget: Under NAD 2,000 per night (unit)

NWR Camping — All Three Main Camps

Camping at Okaukuejo, Halali or Namutoni puts you inside the park at the lowest possible cost. Sites accommodate tents and campervans; shared ablution facilities maintained to acceptable standards. Okaukuejo campsite is within walking distance of the floodlit waterhole.

  • Cost: From NAD 220/site/night (accommodates 2 people)
  • Facilities: Shared ablutions, braai (barbecue) stands, camp kitchen available
  • Best choice: Okaukuejo camping for waterhole access; Halali for atmosphere

NWR Standard Bungalows

Basic en suite bungalows with twin beds, air conditioning (or fan), private bathroom and small veranda. No kitchen — camp restaurant for meals. Good functional accommodation at affordable prices.

  • Cost: NAD 1,300–1,800/unit/night
  • Capacity: 2–3 people per unit
  • Available at: Okaukuejo, Halali, Namutoni

Mid-Range: NAD 2,000–5,000 per night

NWR Chalets and Premier Units

Larger, better-furnished units with more amenities. Some include kitchenette; all have en suite bathroom, air conditioning. Premier units at Okaukuejo and Namutoni are the top NWR standard inside the park.

  • Cost: NAD 2,400–3,500/unit/night
  • Capacity: 2–4 people
  • Best choice: Premier units at Okaukuejo — best location near waterhole

Private Outside-Park Lodges (Mid-Range)

  • Etosha Aoba Lodge (near Anderson Gate): NAD 1,800–3,000/person/night; meals included; comfortable and well-run
  • Mushara Lodge (near Von Lindequist): NAD 2,500–4,000/person; established reputation; good food

Luxury: NAD 5,000+ per person per night

Onkoshi Camp (NWR)

Etosha’s flagship luxury camp — 15 chalets on stilts over the northeastern pan. All-inclusive (meals + activities). Exceptional views, absolute isolation, private game drives.

  • Cost: From NAD 4,500/person/night all-inclusive
  • Best for: Special occasions, luxury seekers, flamingo season visitors

Top Private Lodges

  • Emanya Lodge: Upmarket design lodge near Anderson Gate; excellent service and cuisine
  • Epacha Lodge and Spa: Luxury on private concession; spa, pool, guided drives
  • Onguma The Fort: Dramatic Moorish architecture on private reserve bordering eastern Etosha

Key Decision: Inside vs Outside

For wildlife maximalists, inside-park NWR accommodation always wins — you get first-light access, floodlit waterhole nights, and no commute time. For comfort-first visitors, outside lodges offer a higher standard of accommodation but at the cost of gate transition time each day.
