Etosha is a vast expanse of wilderness covering an area of 22,270 square kilometres. The park is centred around the Etosha Pan, a large salt flat seen from space. The best way to explore the park is by car, either self-driving or with a guided tour. The park has a well-maintained gravel road network allowing visitors to navigate and discover its wonders.
- SEASONS: THE BEST TIME TO VISIT ETOSHA
The best time to visit the Park is from April to September, when the temperatures are tolerably cool, especially at night. This is also the best time for game viewing, as many animals gather at the waterholes to drink. For bird watching, on the other hand, summer is the best time to visit, as migratory birds flock into the park after the summer rains.

One of the main highlights of Etosha is the opportunity to see a wide variety of wildlife up close. Etosha National Park is 415km by road, a 4 to 5-hour drive north of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia and the gateway for most international flights. Driving is effortless on the road from Windhoek to Etosha. Entrance to Etosha National Park is via one of 3 gates, Andersson Gate in the south, Galton Gate in the west, or Namutoni Gate in the east. The entrance and camp gates open at sunrise and close at sunset, as the exact times differ from one season to the next.
